TAS 601: Ask Scott #187 – What's The BEST Way to Launch My Product on Amazon TODAY?

[INTRODUCTION]

[00:00:03] Scott: Well hey, hey what’s up everyone! Welcome back to another episode of The Amazing Seller Podcast. This is episode number 601 and session number 187 of Ask Scott. This is where I…

…answer your questions here on the podcast and I do it every single week. And we're going to do it again here today. And I'm excited because well we're going to talk today we're going to answer this question about what is the best way today, right now, the time that we're in to launch my product on Amazon And then also how do I do it if don't have an email list or an audience? How do I do it? It's a great question. We're going to address that here today.

I think it's really important that we understand this because times are changing. The landscape is changing and we have to do things a little bit differently and we have this asset it will allow us to really launch products a lot easier. But if you don't have a list what can we do in the meantime? That’s really what we're going to talk about here today. Because there are things that you can do and I'm going to break it down in this reply to this question. All right, so if you have a question that you want me to answer on an upcoming Ask Scott question, there's a couple of different ways that you can do it.

Number one, head over to theamazingseller.com/ask and you can do that. Just ask me a question there. You can either comment or you can leave a voice mail whichever you prefer. And the other way is head on over to theamazingsellertv.com and that will take you over to my YouTube channel. And you can ask a question there. You can leave a comment on one of the videos that I've already done on a topic that you want me to talk more about. Like whatever it is leave your questions and comments over there and I'll do my best to answer them either in the comments or I'll do a session just like this with your question that will be the topic of the day.

So go ahead and do that. While you're over there do me a favor, subscribe to the channel over there on YouTube, give a little YouTube love or the channel a little bit of love I would really, really appreciate that

[00:02:01] Scott: Let me give you a couple of updates. Number one, right now we're switching gears. I say we, myself and my team, we're switching gears and were listening to what you guys want more help on. And for the most part everyone wants to know how to still launch successfully on Amazon. And we've created the training called Private Label classroom, you've probably heard of it or maybe you're even a student of it and that has specifically helped you find products, low competition products and how to effectively launch those on Amazon.

Now everything in there is still relevant. But there's a lot of things that we're doing outside of that to build our brand so we're not just another ‘me too' product or another widget So we're talking about actually finding your market and then serving the market with those products but then also building out content and then from there building out your list and your audience so you can communicate with those people and you can show up not just on Amazon when 5% of your market is ready to buy.

What we're doing now is we're doing a full overhaul of private Label Classroom. We're basically going to take everything that we've learned, again through our own businesses but then also all of the businesses that we've helped over the past three and a half years. And I'm talking high level businesses. The ones that are in our Inner Circle that are doing mid six figure to seven figure businesses and what we've learned through this process and now we want to create a full training of how to build and that does include how to find products that can sell on Amazon but also how to find the market so you can go out there and create assets in that market.

So this way here when you're ready to launch you're not just another me too product or another widget. You're going to have assets that are built to help promote your products and your business. Also other revenue stream that can come in to the business.

[00:04:00] Scott: Like right now in the new brand we've taken the time from day one to start a blog and then post on that blog and now we're getting a revenue stream coming in from the external traffic that's not even non-Amazon. Those are the things that we're also going to be including now inside of private label classroom. So anyone that's a current student is going to get this brand new training which by the way is going to be released to the public probably mid to the end of January.

But what we're going to be doing here as a special for anyone that's a member of TAS Breakthrough You and does our annual package, we'll actually get access to this absolutely free inside of TAS Breakthrough You. This training is going to be so in-depth and it's going to actually take you through the entire process, how to create a real business, not just how to launch a product on Amazon. Yes, that's going to be part of it and I want to stress that but it's going to be so much more than that.

So if you are interested in learning more about getting access to this training before we close the doors to TAS Breakthrough You which will be December 20th head over to theamazingseller.com/training, you'll get all the details there. Again that's theamazingseller.com/training. I'm really excited about that and I can't wait to get working on that but it's going to be a lot of fun and it's going to be so awesome to have this one training that is going to help you build a real brand, a real business that is not just relying on just one revenue stream, not one channel.

It's going to be really awesome. I'm excited to finally be able five into all of these different areas. So there's that. The other thing I want to let you guys know is my thoughts of the week and that is Amazon is changing and will continue to change. And I'm hearing this a lot through people that are listeners but also people that are in my Inner Circle. There's someone right now in my Inner Circle who's dealing with a hijacking situation.

[00:06:04] Scott: We're talking about a product that has done seven figures. One product, it was doing 300 units per day consistently and now it's down to about 20, maybe even as little as 15. So talk about a blow to your business. Well that's what we're working on with him, figuring that out but also how to diversify and that's really what we're going to be doing here inside of Private Label Classroom through this new version of Private Label Classroom. But you got to understand guys that Amazon is awesome. It is.

It is so good but it's so risky too if that's all we're doing, Like I said, if you're selling your business in the future and you only have Amazon FBA as one channel, as one revenue stream, as one set of traffic it's going to be risky for that investor. You're going to get less. So all the way around it's risky and you won't get as much value for the business if you ever want to exit the business and you don't have stability in your business. Because if something happens to that channel you're out of business. And that's what we don't want to do. We do not want to rely on that one channel.

Do we want to still use that channel? Absolutely. We would be foolish not to take advantage of that channel. That'd be silly. But we have to protect ourselves as well. So here's the deal. If you are thinking about launching a product on Amazon and that's all you're thinking about doing I want you to rethinking that. I want you to think about building a brand. And even if it's just a three, maybe five product brand I don't care and I also want you to start thinking about the market that you’re serving and that you're going after.

And then from there I want you to start thinking about how do I get attention in my market not just on Amazon? How do I go out there and find the other 95% of the market that is not ready to buy right now? How do I get their attention? How do I create that bond, that relationship with that audience once I get the attention? And then from there like how do I monetize my brand outside of just one channel? Like that's the thing about building a brand.

[00:08:10] Scott: Market, attention, bond, relationship and then monetization Like that's it. Like those are the things that you need to be focusing on. Now I want you to be thinking about, so those are my thoughts because so many people are so dependent on just one channel or they're thinking about that one product. It's risky. Please, just think about what I'm saying. Just think about it before you think I'm just going to go ahead and launch a product and I'm going to be able to leave my job. It's so risky.

So that's my thoughts. I'm afraid for people that are actually just starting and they're thinking I'm just going to launch a product and that's going to be my revenue stream that's going to come in that I’m going to depend on. Man, that scares the crap out of me. So I do not want you to fall under that spell. So all right, guys enough on that. Let's go ahead and listen to today's question because it is about how to launch on Amazon even if you don't have a list. But my recommendation is always, yes you can do this but you're going to want to do the other as well. But you just might not have the asset right now built.

Start building the asset. But I'll go ahead and I'll explain in the reply to this question. So let's get into it. What do you say?

[Q&A SESSION]

[00:09:30] Scott: All right cool, so this question comes in from Seth. And Seth asks, ‘It might have already been answered but what do you do if you're launching your first product and you don't have an email list? What's the best launch strategy? Just aggressive pay-per-click?'

All right, here we go. Let's talk about launching your product without an email list, without an audience. Now, if you don't have an audience and you don't have an email list this is why you want to have one. Because I'm a huge fan of having your own audience so you can leverage the audience to then boost your sales. Whether you're launching a brand new product or you're just maybe ran out of stock and you're re-launching a product, that's why you want the leverage of an email list or an audience. So I just want to say if you don't have your audience of your own yet, you can always go out there and find other people that have an audience that are building influence and then you can go out there and you can ask them or send them your product and say, ‘Hey, I just want your feedback on my product.

I know that you are a huge bass fisherman and you have a great audience, I would love for you to let me know what you think. And then they may just randomly show up on YouTube and do a video review of your product. Send it to them without a big ask. And what I mean by that is don't say, ‘Hey, I want to send you this thing but if I send you this thing, will you go ahead and review my product? Will you go ahead and create a video?’ Like none of that stuff. It's very simple.

‘Hey what's your address so I can send you one of my stainless steel garlic presses. I really would love your feedback on it.' That’s it. And then just get their address and mail it to them. Like that's it. If you do that to ten, fifteen or twenty or more different influencers you're going to get a few people that are going to say yes. And the thing is those few people can be massive when you're doing a launch. So that's one angle. The other angle would be building your own email list.

So if you haven't started that then you definitely want to do that and I do have a free resource on that. And I have a lot of resources here on the YouTube channel.

[00:11:30] Scott: But if you go to theamazingseller.com/buildlist and I will actually link it up in the description down below so this way here you can just click on it and you can go there if you want to, I'll also include some other resources at the end of this video for building a list. So that's another way that you want to be doing it over time So this way here it's really easy for you to launch your products. But if you don't have that stuff or maybe it's like, ‘You know what Scott, I just want to launch my product. I don't worry about that stuff,' then yes

Using pay-per-click sponsored product ads is the way to do it. The way to do it is you want a really, really good listing So you want to make sure that your listing is fully optimized before you do any type of launch. What I mean by that is great images, great title, great bullets, great description, and make sure the back end of your listing is filled out with your keywords. All of those things need to be done before you ever drive any traffic to that listing. Now that we got that out of the way, let's say that’s all done and you feel really good about it.

Then what I would do is I would lower my price by 20%, maybe 30% from what my competition is selling and then I would start to run pay-per-click. But what I would do is I would go after the keywords that are longtail. And what I mean by that is something more direct that if they were to search for that thing, it would be my thing. So it’s stainless steel garlic press. Boom, if they're looking for that and they see it’s stainless steel garlic press and mine is stainless steel garlic press, there's a good chance it's going to sell.

It's something that they want, that they're searching for. Now, a bad example would be if they're just looking for a garlic press yes they could want mine but what if they want a long handled garlic press or maybe they want a red handled garlic press or maybe they want a square head garlic press? I don't know, I’m making things up. But you see what I'm saying. It's too broad of just going after that one thing. You want to go a little bit more long tail. And another bad example that is, if you said okay I just want a cooking accessory.

[00:13:39] Scott: If you had a cooking accessory it might be a garlic press, it might be a spatula, it might be something, a whisk but it's not a garlic press. So we don't care that it gets a lot of traffic. We just care that it's very, very specific to what they're searching for. And when they see it, and they see our image and they see our listing it's going to be like that's what I was looking for. If I'm looking for a practice amp, which I have right here and I did just buy that. If you're looking for a practice amp, I'm going to type in practice amp.

That means that I’m looking for a practice amp that is small that will be able to be traveled with or that you can move, that it doesn't have to be this big huge amplifier. So practice amp but again that might be too broad. So then what I looked for because I like the Marshall, Marshall practice amp or small practice amp. So that's getting better but it's still not as specific as you would want to go. Now, you could start there and then you can expand if you want to but you want to always make sure that you are going out there and finding keywords that people are searching for that when they see it its exactly what they're searching for.

Especially in the beginning. So again, long handled stainless garlic press. It's not stainless steel garlic press. Something that. Maybe if you're going after a fishing lure, instead of it being a fishing it's going to be bass fishing lure weedless. And then if I have that thing and I'm searching for it, it's the thing. If I don't put weedless in there they might just find mine though like I wanted a weedless one. Then they're not going to buy it. So that’s why we want to make sure that our listing is fully optimized, we want to make sure that we're going after the right keywords, the long tail keywords.

So it's a better chance of us selling. And then we want to reduce our price during the launch.

[00:15:30] Scott: So hopefully that helped you and you can go out there and launch your products anyway that you want but I would use all of those together once you build your list, once you have an influencer that you've met with and that you've started to create a relationship with. Maybe you've got three or four of those, that would be wonderful. And then I would do the pay-per-click as well.

All right, so there you go. Hopefully that helped you and it gave you some ideas, some strategies that you can use right now and the one thing that I want to stress here is you can do something right now. So many people say, ‘Well, I'm going to wait until I get my product before I build my list or I'm going to build my list and then I'm going to decide what product,’ I would rather see you just do something. Like right now if you are waiting for your product, then you should be building that list in my opinion.

Because there's time that we're waiting for things to happen so why not use that time wisely. And in this case building an asset is really, really important and I think it can really help you move forward and not just rely on that one strategy. So, definitely think about that. So I did want to remind you that up until December 20th, you can get full access to TAS Breakthrough You and all of our other trainings. This is something that we will not be doing again in the future. So again, like I said, if you want access to all of our trainings currently that reside in there and our updated version of private label classroom before we actually release it to the public, definitely head over to theamazingseller.com/training for all the details.

And do that before December 20th because that is when we will be officially closing the doors until after the first of the year 2019. So guys, that's it that is going to wrap up this episode. The show notes can be found at theamazingseller.com/601.

And as always, I want to remind you that I'm here for you, I believe in you and I'm rooting for you. But you have to, you have to… Come on say it with me, say it loud, say it proud, “Take action.” Have an awesome, amazing day and I’ll see you right back here on the next episode.
