…Actually, I’m pretty pumped because I want to share with you an important TAS announcement, The Amazing Seller that is, and a little bit of a new direction that I want to start going in. Now, I’ve already kind of started this and you might have already noticed it yourself by listening, all of you long-time listeners. When we started this podcast, we were mainly talking about Amazon and I still talk quite a bit about Amazon and I will continue to as long as we’re still on that platform but really, you’ve probably also noticed I started talking a lot about building a brand. Now, a lot of you know that are long-time listeners especially if you’ve listened to Episode 300 like I’ve been doing this for a long time. Whether it’s building a brick-and-mortar business, building a brand there, or then taking what I’ve known there and then brought that online and created digital products and physical products that I was selling online before Amazon.
So, a lot of you already know that story. But then fast forward and three years later after starting this podcast, I built up a pretty good audience, a pretty good community with you guys so I’ve done that now. I didn’t have that three years ago, built a podcast to one of the top business podcasts, downloaded over 10 million times. I’ve created training to help my community, you guys. So, I’ve done all that stuff again and, by the way, I’ve done that in another niche before The Amazing Seller even existed and I want to start to share that. I want to really create this hybrid approach is kind of what I’m looking at as far as why not share what I’ve done over and over again, not just with physical products but with digital products and to me, a real brand can have both of those.
[00:02:03] Scott: If you can create digital products, if you can create physical products and if you can bring those two together and build an audience, now I mean a lot of you don’t realize this, but you can create a podcast for your niche, for your market. If you’re into fishing, you can create a fishing podcast. Well, guess what, I’ve started a podcast. I kind of know a few things about podcasting. So, maybe I can share what I’ve done and give my tips there. So, for me, personally, I don’t want to be just the guy that can only talk about Amazon. I want to share with you all of my experiences. If you’re sitting there right now thinking to yourself, “I would love to be able to get my message out to the world and build a brand around that with physical products and digital products or maybe just digital products and then you can add physical products later.” If that’s what you want to do, I want to be able to help you.
So, again, if you’re sitting there thinking to yourself, “I’ve been trying to do this thing where I tried to find the product that’s selling on Amazon. I try to build a brand around that thing,” I want you to take a timeout for a second. I’ll call in my buddy, Kevin, my referee buddy. Kevin, if you’re listening, I need you to blow that whistle. I need to call a timeout for a second because what I realized is that a lot of people are out there just trying to find that one product or those three products that they might be able to sell and there’s nothing wrong with that if that’s where you want to start but trust me, once you get going on that, you’ll probably either get bored or you might just figure out that’s not the direction you want to go and then you’re going to pivot and then you’re going to be saying, “You know what, I would love to be able to do something that I’m actually interested in.” And I know a lot of times people talk about just go after the money, don’t chase your passion or don’t chase something that you’re excited about. I would disagree. I would argue with that. Going back to when my wife and I had our photography studio, we started that business because my wife had a passion for photography, and if you guys had not heard that story, Episode 300 talks a lot about that.
[00:04:03] Scott: And I’m going to be sharing more of those stories because there’s a lot of the smaller parts of those stories that I can share especially how did my wife and I start a photography business from scratch brick-and-mortar then we took that knowledge, that passion that we had and we built a digital products business outside of a brick-and-mortar business. I mean, a lot of people would want to know that story. A lot of people I can help with that story. So, for me, and I’ve kind of realized this after spending about three or four days in San Diego in my mastermind I became aware that I probably should help other people not just selling physical products. Because again, I look back and I go, “Wait a minute here, Scott,” and obviously it’s not even just me like a lot of people have said to me, “What you’re doing or what you did with The Amazing Seller, you could actually teach people how you did that.”
I’m like, “Yeah, I could but I don’t really know if it really goes hand-in-hand, but it really does now that you think about it.” And for me personally, I get really, really excited when I’m talking to someone that might not even know about Amazon yet and they tell me that they’ve got an idea of something that they would love to do but they just have no knowledge of the online space, I immediately say, “You should create a business in that thing.” So, if I ran across someone that said, “I just love playing guitar, I love teaching guitar,” immediately I’m like, “You should be creating a YouTube channel, you should be teaching that stuff for free right now, building up an audience. Once you build up that audience, then from there you can see what they want, you can sell them things that they want and that they need and then it becomes easy.” So, why not do something that you’re excited about that you’re passionate about or that at least or maybe you’re helping someone that is passionate about it themselves.
[00:05:56] Scott: Like myself personally, like I was somewhat passionate about the photography business but more so, my wife was, and I was really the supporting role in that. I really got excited about learning the digital side of things. I really got excited about learning about Photoshop and guess what, I built a digital photography products business around Photoshop where I was selling templates and different things in that space, teaching how to use the program. Again, self-taught by the way, read a book and they didn’t have a lot of YouTube when I first started, and I just gradually learned it and got better at it and I knew a little bit more than those people and then they wanted to learn from me. Very similar to The Amazing Seller, just a few steps ahead but I was able to help those people. We were also able to help people in photography as far as starting their own business and we help people in that direction. And again, these are stories that I want to share, I want to be able to share, and I want to be able to reach people that have something out there that’s in them that they want to get out there or maybe a business that you have right now that’s brick-and-mortar but you don’t realize you can bring that business to Amazon and to the other marketplaces and you can build your own following and your own audience.
Like, there’s a lot of people out there that don’t realize what they’re sitting on is actually a business that they could be excited about and that they can enjoy. So, this is my time to pivot and what I mean by that is I’m not going to be just pushing, “You got to go to Amazon. You got to go Amazon.” That’s where you would launch. Like, if I was to say to someone right now that’s just starting, I would say, “Yes, you want to launch your products on Amazon.” But if you came to me and you said, “Right now, I just want to teach guitar,” I can help you. And then we’ll start to figure out the product line that we can have that we can sell to that market and how we can build that audience, different mediums that you’re more comfortable with. Me personally, I don’t like writing. You guys know that. A lot of you know.
[00:08:00] Scott: So, I don’t like writing. I write my Friday email by myself. It takes me about an hour, sometimes an hour-and-a-half, yes, an hour to an hour-and-a-half. It’s not that that long. I mean, long enough but for a lot of people, they could just bang that thing out. I’m a terrible typer. I’m not really good with just how to phrase things or say things and that’s a struggle for me but I do it because I know my audience, you guys, like that and enjoy it and I want to give you guys that but I would much rather jump on the mic and do something like this. That’s why I chose podcasting. YouTube, I’m okay on video. I’m comfortable on video. So, I would love to be able to share with you these different things that I’ve done over the years and hopefully reach a little bit of a wider audience of people that I’ll give you an example.
If I ran into a blogger right now and they said, “I’ve got this blog. I’ve been creating content for the blog, writing blog post, I love it, I share it, whatever.” Maybe it’s a fishing blog. “And all I do is I just post pictures and I talk about my trips that I take with my buddies or whatever and I’ve been doing that and I’m getting traffic and I’m making $800 a month on affiliate sales from Amazon as an associate, as an affiliate,” and I’d be like, “Okay. Cool. Let’s amplify this. Let’s figure out what we’re doing here. Let’s take that business to where it is right now. You’re making $800. We can probably turn that into an $8,000 a month business with just some tweaks and with a plan moving forward.” I can help you with that. I've done it. I've done it over and over again and I've helped a lot of people do it. So, what I want to do is really I’m kind of giving myself permission to do this and I was realizing that for the longest time. I’m like, “Scott, why am I always feeling,” or, “Scott, why are you,” I’m talking to myself now, “Scott, like why are you always feeling like you only can talk about that?” “Well, I don’t want people to feel as though it doesn’t pertain to what they’re doing,” but actually it does, and you guys know that have been listening for probably the past hundred episodes.
[00:10:01] Scott: Been talking a lot about brand building. That’s where I’m going. That’s where I’m going. That’s where I hope you’re going to go with me. I believe that that is the future. I believe if we can take those two things, the digital products, and physical products, and we can bring those two together, we can build a really, really successful brand. Something that will work now and in the future, and guess what? If you have physical products and you run out of inventory and you still got digital products going, you’re not going to be depending just on the physical products. So, this is kind of like a way to diversify your business, your brand, right? Now, not all business will support or will have a digital product that they can create for that. I would probably argue with that. I think every brand for the most part depending could have some type of digital product along with that even if it’s just a $19 e-book or something like that, I believe that that is there but I want to be able to go through this with you guys and I want to help you guys and especially if you’re just listening now and you’re hearing this, I want you to start asking yourself that question.
If you didn’t have to think about the product that you had to sell, who would you want to serve? Who would you want to go out there and build a business for or around? What would excite you? What would get you out of bed in the morning? If you could ask yourself that like wake up one day and you’re doing exactly what you want to do, not sitting on the beach sipping a piña colada like, yes, that would be cool, that will last a week and then you’ll get bored. It’s just one of those things and right now you might be chasing the money and I get that. I was chasing the money for a while too because things were tough. I didn’t always have it where money was easy, but it was a struggle so you’re always chasing it but always in the back of my mind I’m always thinking to myself there’s a passion project that I’m working on and I really wish this thing would work. I really wish that I could do this and that I would continue to work on that thing.
[00:12:01] Scott: And that’s kind of how the digital product things happened with my photography business. The photography business was paying the bills and then I started the online thing and it started to get a few sales and I started to tweak a few things and then I try something, didn’t work, and then would try something else and it would work, and I would start building that, but I was still doing my full-time photography business. Or if you rewind in time, I was working as a contractor for my father and then building a photography business on the backend of that. So, I was doing what I wanted to do but I had to do what I needed to do to pay the bills. Hopefully, that makes sense. So, I want you guys to know that moving forward, I’m still going to be talking about physical products. I’m still going to be talking about Amazon. I’m still going to be talking about like how to go out there and build that brand but I’m also going to be now weaving in digital products and I don’t know exactly like what I’m going to share as far as like how to create a physical product or different types of physical products like all of that stuff, but when it comes to me that I feel is needed, I’m going to create that piece of content and I’m going to start putting it out there.
And for me, personally to grow, I need to be able to serve those people and right now the people that come to mind is if you’re listening and your podcasting, if you’re listening and your blogging, if you’re listening and you’re YouTubing, but you’re thinking to yourself, “There’s got to be another way that I can grow this thing?” I can totally, totally help you, totally help you and what I would love for you guys to do that are listening that might be in that situation, just email me firstname.lastname@example.org and just put in the subject line maybe something like “digital products”, something like that, just “digital products” and that way I’ll know. I’m just curious because my audience right now I know is primarily people wanting to sell physical products on Amazon. I know that. Okay. But I’ve been also talking a lot about building a brand, building your external sales funnel which we’re doing behind the scenes as well. I’m going to be sharing a lot of that moving forward but I can also share with you how we can start to do digital products and physical products in a funnel.
[00:14:06] Scott: That’s a whole other ballgame. Now, that opens up a whole new side of things to where you felt like you could only sell physical products, well, now we can sell digital products in the backend if your business allows that or if it makes sense. So, again, I wanted to jump on here and just kind of go through like those things and why I want to do this and just kind of letting you know like this is going to be happening and I’m pretty excited about it. And it was funny because I actually had to give myself permission and sometimes you have to give yourself permission to do these things and the only person that’s really holding you back is you and you’ve heard me say this time and time again and I’ve been realizing that you, the listeners, have been listening because I recently posted our 500th episode which was amazing and I had a ton of emails and support and comments and everything.

[00:15:59] Scott: If you’re listening to this after the fact, you can still go there, read the comment but what I realized and I actually want to go there right now and I just want to kind of just read, not all of them, but I’m just going to read a couple of things that kind of stuck out to me that made me say, “You know what, Scott, this is what you’re supposed to be doing. This is the direction you should be going,” and also that you guys are definitely been paying attention or you have been paying attention especially recently. So, the first one I’m going to share with you is Eüro says, “Scott, congrats on the 500 episodes! Here’s to 500 more man – your shared knowledge continues to help us all. Anyways, I’ve been a listener for a little over a year. What I’ve learned the most has been this: rather than find some one-off trendy product that would make you 6 figures, study the markets and find a need for that chosen target market. That and to “take action” because when I heard you say that, I was sitting around for 6 months with no action and hearing that mantra from you every episode really lit a fire under my behind.”
So, yeah, that’s pretty awesome. So that was cool. Not going out there and just finding the one-off shiny product actually going out there and finding a market and then building a brand inside that market. Then Anthony says, “I started my FBA journey in June 2017. I've been listening to the podcast for over six months. I learn from every podcast or video, but since I have to choose one,” because I asked them to kind of give me one thing that they’ve learned since listening, and he said, “To never stop learning and testing. Something can always be done better, the rules can always change, but we can always figure out a course of action.” Yup. That’s 100% true and that is my mindset and I think a lot of what we’re talking about here is mindset. A lot of times you have to think about like where you are and where you want to go and that’s exactly what I’m doing here right now. And then Adam says, “I’ve been listening for about 8 months. It’s been great at night to soak up knowledge. Number two,” and this was the second thing. I asked them again is like what it has helped you with.
[00:17:59] Scott: “It’s helped me have the confidence to believe that I can actually build a real business online without a college degree. Overall it has inspired me and guided me in every single detail involved in this business and I use the information in my own unique constructive way to build my brand. Love the podcast.” So, again, I love it that I attracted someone too that felt like they couldn’t do it. Does that sound familiar? That was me. Didn’t have a college degree. Neither did I. So, I love that. Not saying that you have to be that type of person. I’m just saying we all are starting to kind of collectively come together and by me sharing my stories, will hopefully give you that motivation, that inspiration, but then also that let's take action. Did you hear that? I just put my fist in my hand, take action, and just get out there and do it.
And one last one I’ll share. There’s 100 plus on here right now at the time that I’m recording this. “Hey, Scott! Doug from Utah here! I've been listening to the podcast for over seven months now. Focus on building your brand as a product line and as an individual. That’s exactly what I’m saying here. So, a lot of these comments were that is building a brand, building a brand, building a brand. So, what do I want to do moving forward? I want to help even more with that and I believe by me sharing those other things that is podcasting, creating YouTube videos, creating Facebook lives, how to build an audience, how to build your list, how to communicate with your list, all of that stuff, I want to share. And that’s what I’m going to be sharing and I think moving forward, I need to share that because I want to reach more people than just the ones that are, “I want to go ahead and make $1 million on Amazon.”
[00:20:01] Scott: Like, I don’t necessarily even want to reach those people because to me that’s not a real business. You’re not building a real business if you’re only focusing on building a business on Amazon. Do we want to launch products on Amazon? I’m going to repeat myself. Yes, you do. It’s a great platform and if you’re a brick-and-mortar right now and you’re listening to this and you’re not launching your own products on Amazon, you should be like that would be my first consultation with you if we had a meeting, sell those products on Amazon. Why not? It’s traffic. They’re there. Everything is taken care of. So, that’s what I want to do. I want to be able to share what I’ve done in the past. A perfect example of like this hybrid approach by the way if you’ve ever heard of Beachbody, I’m a big fan of Beachbody. I did INSANITY with Shaun T. I did P90X. I did a few other programs inside of Beachbody. I still take their Shakeology which is a shake that I take daily. So, I’m a big fan but what they’ve done is they’ve created that hybrid. They have digital products, basically training, and then they have different supplements or different accessories.
Like, if you’re doing P90X, you can buy a chin-up bar, you can buy these push-up bars, you can buy I think there are some bands that you can buy. So, they've added the physical products element to it like every program usually has a couple of accessories that go with the program. So, if you have a program that you’re teaching, you can have digital products as a complementary thing that goes along with it, so Beachbody is a perfect example of that. There’s a lot of other ones out there too but that’s just one that comes to mind. But this is what I want to do, and this is what I want to share with you. Now, coming up in Episode 507, the next episode, I’m going to be sharing with you how I built a six-figure digital products brand in the photography niche. I’m going to focus on that. I’m going to share you exactly how I did it so this way here, again, you can see how it was done. We’re going to retrace the steps that I did and then you can either take some of that with you and adapt it or plug it into your business or start thinking differently about the business that you want to build.
[00:22:13] Scott: And just to let you guys know, like recently we launched Product Discovery Bootcamp. That training was created with this all in mind. Now, I didn’t even realize it when I created that but that’s exactly what I did because inside of Product Discovery Bootcamp we are really going through all of this as far as like brainstorming how can we find a market. And if we can find a market in something that we’re interested in, even better, or finding an expert that we’re aligned with or that maybe we’re friends with or maybe it’s someone in our family like my wife was the one that wanted to do photography. She led me to that market. We built a very successful business in that market. That’s what we do in Product Discovery Bootcamp. So, we expose the market and then we drill down trying to find submarkets and then we try to find three to five products right out of the gate that we can sell to get some cash coming into the business but then we can start thinking outside of that that if we want to add additional products and these could be digital products.
So, this is like that hybrid like I was saying, the hybrid approach where we take those two and we plug it in. Now, when I created Product Discovery Bootcamp, I wasn’t thinking like we’re going to start creating digital products for these because not all of them you probably could but some of them you could but now that’s what I want to do. I want to be able to have these other resources available, so you guys can say, “Oh yeah, I could podcast. That could definitely get plugged in,” or, “Oh yeah, videos for YouTube? Yep, that could get plugged in. Or wait a minute, Facebook lives, creating that or Facebook ads? Yeah, that could work. Or building a funnel outside of that with your physical products and your digital products. Yep, we could plug that in.” So, Product Discovery Bootcamp is really the foundation and I think also it’s taking maybe even your current brand and looking at it differently because a lot of times if you join Product Discovery Bootcamp, we’re going to go through this entire process.
[00:24:02] Scott: But then if you already have a brand already started and you’re already like invested in it and you want to stay in it, we’ll expand that out and we can expand that out now by talking about digital products and stuff like that. We could actually use like those products to broaden our product line as well, and we can diversify like we talked about earlier which I think is huge. I mean, the other thing I didn’t even talk about too and this is something we’re going to be doing in our new brand is webinars or workshops. Like, if you have a business that supports doing a webinar or a workshop-type format, well, I can help you with that. I’ve done them. I’ve done over 300. So, I've got a little bit of experience there so why not share that? Why shouldn't I share that I guess is the question? So, I’m going to share it. So, keep an eye out for all of that stuff.
And I will say if you guys are at the very beginning stages and you’re still struggling to find that product, I want you guys to think about it differently. We’re not just going out and finding a product. We’re out there finding a market and I would definitely recommend checking out Product Discovery Bootcamp. I’ll put a little shameless plug here. You actually look over my shoulder and Chris Schafer’s shoulder as we’re going through this process and we start from scratch and then at the end, we actually have a sample in hand in the market that we’ve chosen with three to five products that we’re thinking about that we would launch in this. But, I could keep going on and on with this. I am going to be sharing more of the first episode that I’m going to start talking more about this especially like digital products will be 507 and just digital media in general or digital social media, all that stuff, that I’m going to be talking more about but in 507 the one where I’m going to be sharing how I built a six-figure digital products brand in the photography niche.
[00:26:03] Scott: I’m going to be sharing that with you. I’m going to give you kind of like the play-by-play which I’ve never really shared that here on the podcast. So, I want to do that, and I think now after three years have gone by, there’s a lot of other things that I could talk about and that’s what I’m going to be doing here and to me, it’s going to open up more things for you guys if you’re following the podcast. To me, it’s going to help you build a real brand. And let me just say another thing. Once you do this stuff and you build it up and you have a brand that would support both of those like a physical products line and digital products line, if you’re going to sell that, that’s going to be worth even more and building an audience in your market. That’s worth more, not just the list but an audience so there are two different sides to that. But again, I’m going to talk all about that. So, again, I just want to jump on here. I want to kind of let you in on what’s going on in my head and kind of the new direction that I’m really excited about it.
It’s kind of like a breath of fresh air for me personally. When I first started the podcast, there was no one doing a podcast on like Amazon. There was like a few like episodes here and there on different podcast episodes on certain shows but nothing that was dedicated to like physical products so that’s what I wanted to do but now there’s a lot more and that’s fine. And same thing with YouTube, there wasn’t a lot. Now there’s a bunch there. There’s a lot of the young kids out there posting Lamborghinis, and, “This is how I got rich and this and that.” I’m not about that. I’ll never be about that. I’m about building a lifestyle. I’m about building a real business and to me, I’d be doing you a disservice if I did not share what I want to share with you moving forward and that’s really the direction I want to go in. Because you know what, when it’s all said and done, at the end of the day, I want myself and this brand to be noted for helping people free themselves of what they don’t want to be doing in life and that’s probably going to be a job.
[00:28:02] Scott: But I want to be the one known to help those people and really build a brand and preferably a brand that they’re proud of and that’s what I want to be known for and kind of like the legacy that I’d like to leave behind and really just helping regular everyday people be able to do that. And also, being the one that’s like cutting through all the BS out there, all of the crap that you might be being hit with all of these different channels. I want to be different in the sense that I want to share with you how to build a real brand that you can be proud of that you can have now and into the future and maybe even sell it in the future and live that life that you want, create that lifestyle that you want ultimately. That’s what I want to be known for and that’s what I want The Amazing Seller to be not just the Amazon, and I’m doing the air quotes, not just the Amazon or how to build an Amazon business because I have more to offer and I know that we all collectively together can build some really awesome businesses or even improve the current businesses that we have.
So, that’s the goal here and I am excited beyond words. I’m really excited about doing this and I can’t wait to share more with you so keep an eye out for that.
